Assignment B - Dome Project

DOME PROJECT

The 10th of september was finally the day on which we presented our dome. Naturally we had to make a lot of preperations and measures before we rebuilt our dome on the submitting date, because it really does not look like as simple as it is, especially we had to consider all the items of the production process: Intention, Act, Actor, Rules, Site and finally the Product (=Dome).

Especially the rules, which were given from our lecturer did not make it easier for us to built an dome, here there are:

RULES
zero cost
Packaged
Prefabricated
accomodate 5 people
carryable by 3 People
assembled in 30 minutes
only by team member
show team identity
Assembly : 10 september 2008 (11.30-12 noon)
recyclable
lifefespan not more than 12 months
not linked to other domes I.E. independent and standalone

To give you a first impression how our dome looked like, here is the first pricture of our dome.

These picture shows our PRODUCT => an geodesic dome!!!

We can also see the SITE of the product, it was planned to be rebuilt on the HBP premise.

As a matter of course such a dome can not be built oneself. Our group, which is called D ONE and consists of five people, so we were the ACTORS of this dome. It was a very interesting misxture, as we are from different countries and we have all different mayors.

Keira Cheong Kai Pei (Quantity Surveying)
Lesley Teu Pui Ning (Archtitecture)
Ahmed Rashed Salim Almukhaini (Planning)
Hangama Ghafuri (Facility Management & Real Estate Management)
Mohamed Hamdhan Bagir (Building Technology)

There was a lot work which had to be done before starting to built a dome. As you can see on the picture, we had to make some research in the internet to found out which form our dome should have, which measures the bamboos have to have and what kind of materials we have to use.
All these decisions which concers these things are part of the ACT of the production.

USM 37th Convocation

The USM 37th Convocation is an event which is given every year by the USM University to appriciate his students who are gradute. At this celerbration students get their certification and they have to wear special clothes and it is important that their family and close relative have to be there.
But the celerbration itself is only one factor of the production model. That model consists of six items:
1. Intention
2. Actor
3. The Act
4. Rules
5. Site
6. Product

To give a view how in realty these factors are used, the 37th Convocation is used as an example.

First it has to be defined what the intention of this event is. The intention of 37th Convocation is to hand the degree to the students on and to have an enjoyable last day at the university with family and people who were involved in their whole student life, like lecturers, students, friends and people who work at the university.

After defining the intention is has to figure out who is involved in all proesses of an productions. That means determining the actors, these are people who are involved in that project and who is making all that possible or bring it from paper to reality.

Also the actors have different tasks for whom they are resenponsible until the end of the project. So every different actor has an different act.

Now we know who are involved, after that is has to be arranged which place is proper enough for such an huge event. As the site the front of Management building was chosen, as trees give shade and it was near the hall which the ceremony was held.

Events like the convocation has rules hence everything has to be at their same position as after using.

The last factor of a production is the product. Which is in our case the tents and the equipment which belongs to the tents.

Summary

As we could see that every step of a production is very important to get finally the product and it shown through that events like the convocation could successfully be organized without destroying the environment.

Assignment B

Assignment B

Now we go one step further, as our first assignment should give us an virtual construction, the second assignment draw on us physically and mentally. Our task is to built a dome.

Here are some important points regarding this assignment.
As we already know every product goes through an production and there are six elements of production

Intenton - experimental, holistic, simulative learning

Actor - group of 5 students

Act - Design, Build, Assemble & Blog the productionProduct; Geodestic dome

Product - a geodestic dome

Site - HBP premise (details to be given later)

Rules -

1. Zero Cost

2. Packaged

3. Pre-fabricated

4. Accommodate 5

5. Carriable by 3

6. Should assemble within 30 minutes

7. Should be the work of group members only

8. Show team identity

9. Assembly on 10Th Sep 2008 (Venue to be finalized later)

10. Time of assembly 11.30-12.00

11. Life span not more than 12months

12. Must be recyclable

13. NOT linked to any other domes(independent/stand-alone)

Lecture 3 - Product

Product

These lecture give us a clear sight what product means.

There are some items which a product must have:

- first element of a product is the intention of it
-you have to understand the product
-it must have an identity
-it has to be indentified with the seven scales, but it depends on the product
-it must have => from and space
attributes of space - Color, Texture, Pattern, Size, Glow, Shine
Transparency any configuration of an object
attributes of form - should be discibed as welcoming, tight, accomodating
and so on
-it must have => nodes and paths
-illusion - "An illusion is a distortion of the senses, revealing how the brain normally organizes and interprets sensory stimulation." They may be Optical(visual), Auditory(hearing and sound) and illusion from other senses like taste and smelling. These illusions are shared by almost everyone. Illusions may also arise due to disorders in certain few individuals.

To visulize if all seven scales can be identified, I consider this website as an example:

-It represents the Object scale for sure, the header, side bar and posts are the objects of this website.
-In Interior scale, the Template design and any custom made changes are represented.
-Building scale? yes! Thats the whole website, (remember, a product is not always physical. It may also be virtual)
-Premise scale? May be! This website is a part of a project given to all the students of HBP. From my point of view this website does not represent in the premise scale but to our lecturer it surely will.
-It isn't represented in the urban or regional scale since its confined to the students of HBP only.
-In the Global scale it is counted since it's in the WWW and anybody anywhere can access it.

To illustrate what a product is, it is the best to give an example.
A product has to be developed and it has many attributes, like for an example a property.
A property is out of different materials, that is one of the attributes of an product or in that case of an property.

Lecture 2 - Scales of the Built Environment

Scales

There are seven scales for environmental built, ranging from nano to celestial
1. object
2. interior
3. building
4. premise
5. urban
6. regional
7. global

intention - ideoligies, design, theories
act - scope of work ( developement of procedures)
product - design of physical objects to physical world
actor - industrial designer, interior achitect, landscape architect, urban designer, planner,
governor
rule - legal aspects of development
site - from the factories to the site

global scale

how do we look at this world?
world is devided in west ( occident) and the east (orient)

world is called the dying planet as everything has a expiry date

why should has the earth´s population be reduced?
- limited source of energy and food
- earth can not sustain the increasing population

New World Order
(information taken from educate-yourself.org/nwo/)

There is a worldwide conspiracy being orchestrated by an extremely powerful and influential group of genetically-related individuals (at least at the highest echelons) which include many of the world's wealthiest people, top political leaders, and corporate elite, as well as members of the so-called Black Nobility of Europe (dominated by the British Crown) whose goal is to create a One World (fascist) Government, stripped of nationalistic and regional boundaries, that is obedient to their agenda. Their intention is to effect complete and total control over every human being on the planet and to dramatically reduce the world's population by 5.5 Billion people. While the name New World Order is a term frequently used today when referring to this group, it's more useful to identify the principal organizations, institutions, and individuals who make up this vast interlocking spiderweb of elite conspirators.

Lecture 1 - Production/Assignment A

Introduction in Production

1. What is Production?
It is a process, thus means it is a chain of many productions steps

2. It is important to recognize what built environment consider, there are five items:
- earth itself
- people, individuals, instituitions
- aim/ objective
- law, customs, belief, prais

3. there six important elements of Production
intention, act, product, actor, rule, size

As a next step all elements are descibed more precisley

intention - have to be explicit ( say) or implicit (no-say)
which can be constructive or destructive
knowlegde is production of an Act

Rules - which has to be consideresd
there are no right/wrong (altruism)
+ everything is wrong -> cynicism
+ everything is right -> relativism

Actor - are people who are involved or can blame you or the peron behind the intention
it can also be companies

Act - individually or socially/grouped
which means how it will be done or which intention is aimed

Rule - are all regulations, belief, custom, natural-gravity, man-made

Product - physical, mental, spiritual or virtual (in head, dream or www)

Site - hot, cold, sea-level, land, floor

Assignment A

1, get a free website website
2, groups.google.com/group/alambina2008
3, design/built on your site the idea of production and explain in detail the production of your
construction
